I worked with Firefly Spark! to redesign their social hangout app. The goal was to enhance the UI, bring the brand identity into the product, and boost user participation and engagement.
I worked with Firefly Spark! to redesign their social hangout app. The goal was to enhance the UI, bring the brand identity into the product, and boost user participation and engagement.
I worked with Firefly Spark! to redesign their social hangout app. The goal was to enhance the UI, bring the brand identity into the product, and boost user participation and engagement.
I contributed by redesigning the home page, chat system, activity page, and notifications. I also helped establish the design system by defining the color palette and contributing to core components, as well as designing the App Store screenshot pages to showcase the app’s features and brand.

My Approach
In approaching my final designs, I drew on the findings and insights gathered from reviewing the v1 designs and focused on solutions tailored to our primary Gen Z users. This led me to lean on familiar design patterns and trends from popular social platforms. Throughout the process, I worked closely with developers and fellow designers to refine and validate my decisions.

The old home page felt cluttered and made it harder for users to know where to start. The new design puts the focus on personalized sparks and nearby events, with a cleaner layout and clearer actions that make it easier for people to discover and join hangouts.

The old chat system limited users to prompt-based messages, which made conversations feel restrictive. I redesigned it using familiar patterns from popular social platforms, giving users the freedom to connect naturally and making the experience feel more intuitive and open.

I redesigned the page around familiar social media patterns. I added quick-action buttons that let users view sparks from friends or nearby directly from their activity feed, alongside notifications for friend requests, system updates, and new sparks.

I designed the notifications experience across the app, including a settings page, iOS push notifications, and custom in-app banners. The cards adapt based on context, such as showing a spark image with a one-tap On My Way button so users can quickly let the host and group know they are coming.

I designed the first versions of the App Store screenshot pages, drawing inspiration from design trends in the store and social media platforms. I created a clean layout that highlights core features and functionality while adding moments of fun and excitement through visuals and custom illustrations on the first screenshot page.

Working in a startup helped me grow not only as a designer but also as a collaborator. My appreciation for clear communication with developers grew even stronger, as it kept everyone aligned and moving forward. Learning from other designers also pushed me to grow and refine my skills as a better designer.
