I am working with the Calgary Game Developers Association to reimagine their website with the goal of attracting new members and sponsors. While the current site is functional, it lacks the clarity and appeal needed to engage users and partners. I am leading the design process independently, drawing on familiar design patterns to create a site that feels both welcoming to members and compelling to sponsors.

While the current website is functional, it struggles to attract new members and sponsors. Key content is difficult to find, calls to action are not prominent, and the overall experience lacks the polish needed to represent the creativity and professionalism of the community.

Through reviewing the existing site and discussions with CGDA’s developer, it became clear that the redesign needed to focus on clarity and appeal: stronger CTAs to engage members and sponsors, improved hierarchy to highlight local games, and a more modern, accessible design that reflects the vibrancy of Calgary’s game development scene.

I looked at familiar design patterns from sites like League of Legends, Unreal Engine, Shopify, and Platform Calgary. Since most of CGDA’s audience are visual creators, I leaned on a video hero background to engage users right away. I also drew from these platforms to keep the layout familiar and easy to navigate, with clear main CTAs for becoming a member and becoming a sponsor.

The idea was to create a site that attracts members and sponsors by showcasing Calgary’s game community; the execution used a video hero, clear CTAs, and a strategic flow through sections for games, sponsors, and events.

After gathering references to guide my design choices, I created low-fidelity prototypes to visualize the layout and flow of the site. These early wireframes helped me focus on structure and hierarchy without being distracted by visuals. From there, I iterated into mid- and high-fidelity designs, refining the look and feel to emphasize clarity, accessibility, and strong calls to action for both members and sponsors.
